The TerraWater Institute, founded on 22 November 2023, is an independent think tank committed to offering an uncompromising perspective on the energy transition in France and Europe. Its mission is to minimise the risks of misguided bets that could jeopardise the
success of the transition, by:
- Developing realistic stress-tested scenarios,
- Analysing the objective contribution of existing and emerging technological solutions to the energy transition,
- Shedding light on the blind spots of public policy,
- Providing a rigorous methodological contribution to the terms and analytical frameworks of the debate.
The aim of TerraWater’s energy system modelling efforts — particularly the TerraWater Scenarios — is to offer the public debate a robust reference pathway for the rapid decarbonisation of the energy system. This approach is designed to durably reduce environmental impact, strengthen French and European sovereignty, meet the needs of both the economy and society, and ensure solidarity in access to energy.
The TerraWater Institute is supported by a growing core team with experience in energy scenario modelling, reinforced by senior volunteer experts in their respective fields, and connected through an effective network of professionals across the many sectors involved.
